Beschreibung
This is a dictionary of the Oceanic language of Nguna, also known as Nakanamanga, North Efate, or Ngunese. It is the somewhat belated sequel to Al Schütz's Nguna texts and Nguna grammar of 1969. Ngunese is the main language of the inhabitants of North Efate and the Shepherd Islands in Central Vanuatu. With an estimated number of over ten thousand speakers, it is one of the largest languages spoken in the island nation. This dictionary is dedicated to the speakers of the language. May it help them in their efforts to maintain the language or propagate a standard orthography. Moreover, we hope it will serve as a foundation for further studies of the language and vernacular literacy programs.
