Peter Pan appears for the first time in this 1902 work. After dark, magical inhabitants emerge behind the locked gates of Londons famous gardens. Other characters in the intertwining storyline include Peters four-year-old friend Maimie, the London bachelor Captain W., young David and his governess, and Barries own St. Bernard, Porthos.

J. M. Barrie (1860-1937) was a Scottish author and playwright. He was involved in the early twentieth-century attempts to overcome state censorship of the arts. Drawing inspiration from the Lewely Davies family (who had five boys), Barrie is best known as the creator of Peter Pan, the boy who wouldn't grow up.
